a magnus protocol theory: “time isn’t real”

now, this theory is a Slight shot in the dark, and is purely based on a throwaway joke that Alice says at one point, but given the way alex and jonny like to plant very silly bits of foreshadowing early on, and some themes i’m noticing in my re-listening of tma, i’m becoming more and more inclined to believe it to have Some truth lol.

So we know that remnants of the tma universe are being revealed, especially through celia. considering her involvement in the post-change cult i think she’s likely going to be an important link.

But the question is, how?

A lot of things i had initially circling my mind was something alternate reality related, due to the doppelgängers and how everything is different, but celia seems to remember another reality.

It wasn’t until i was re-reading some of the earlier transcripts that alice makes a, somewhat pointed, joke that “time isn’t real”, that i thought:

what if this is the same reality, just heavily time distorted due to the post-mag 200 fallout?

at first I was like… nah i literally have no proof, just a hunch, but more and more things just kept piecing together that keeps bringing me back to it:

* the doppelgänger found underground appears to be older in ep 21

* darrien seeming to have fading memory until he meets his doppelgänger

* the spiral is HEAVILY involved in MAG 65: Binary, where it seems possible that the Spiral can trap consciousnesses somewhat in COMPUTERS. Hence “DISTORTED” time, as this could be work of the Spiral

now this theory is most definitely patchy, and i have some ideas on what the entities are now up to since the ending of the apocalypse, my most solid one being that the OIAR are serving the web, or some kind of smirke kind of idea to keep everything in “balance”. but once i finish my re listen i may update this as i go along hehe

Wait I didn't read the "to you" exchange as "contact you?" I definitely read it as "[if something should occur] to you?" meaning that sae was suspicious that the SIU director was for some reason fearing for his own livelihood, lol. in retrospect that doesn't make sense since the game later establishes that the SIU thought he was exempt from shido (which I like cause of the okumura & akechi parallels) but honestly there's something to enjoy about that reading bcause of 1) foreshadowing what happens to him later 2) the idea of shidos conspirators being subconsciously as distrustful of him as he is of them is kind of fun. oh well

I've run into a few pieces of fanon (often very cool fanon, like this one!—and also often very bad ones, like "the PTs are not friends!") which originate from these kinds of errors in the translation.

I do think the watashi ni / buchou ni agreement makes it seem more as if Sae is startled that the Director wants her to contact him directly with the details of the investigation—and it is startling and below the board, of course, because this request is part of the conspiracy's shit.

starting with chapter one, Hyacinth

Hyacinths in this story a motif for love. They appear when Nico and/ or Will interact in a less-than platonic way. The chapter is called Hyacinth because Will and Nico are eachothers Hyacinth. This will also definitely be coming back as an Apollo and Hyacinthus metaphor at some point, haha.

At some point in chapter one, Nico says, referring to Jason,

Thats his problem, though; Jason is a good person, in a world full of bad people. Gods be damned if it doesn’t get him killed one day.

This is foreshadowing for chapter five. That last phrase is SUPER DUPER important, by the way.

Later in the chapter, Nico says Will has eyes like ‘the Hyacinths that bloomed outside my old house.’ once again, a super funsies metaphor for love.

and, chapter two, Nostalgia

The chapter is titled nostalgia because Will says talking to Nico is like ‘nostalgia for something you’ve never experienced before.’

its nostalgic for Will because he never got to experience the type of stupid teenage love he should have, because he lived in texas and couldnt openly express his love for other men without being judged. So, yeah. Its nostalgia for something he SHOULD have had, but never did.

this isnt really foreshadowing, but at the end, Will says camp half blood is ‘quiet.’ its quiet because theyre arent any people there, and… yeah.

chapter three, Dysphoria

dysphoria means a state of ‘unease.’ the chapter is titled dysphoria because Nico feels uneasy about camp half blood but can’t find a solid reason for why.

Nico mentions how quiet it is, again. which is foreshadowing for some pretty sick things from chapter five.

also i forgot to add this in the last one but Nico is a mortician and Will is a doctor because they are supposed to be the literal opposites of eachother.

at the end, Nico says,

Once you become too comfortable, thats when it will happen. Somehow, some way, things will always go wrong when you least expect them to.

so yeah thats because all the crazy stuff starts happening when nico and will are yapping away all comfy cozy

Chapter four, Red Flags.

okay this chapter title isnt really super clever its just called that because theres… red flags in the chapter

okay i really need to explain how Will knew luke was a cannibal in the woods

okay so theres this thing you get from eating humans brains, its called prions and it causes muscle spasms so thats why the muscle relaxers were the only thing in the infirmary that was touched. thats how will put that together in the woods, plus no one being there and stuff.

the thing Jason ‘realizes’ is that will feels the same about nico

once again theres hyacinths at nicos feet in the woods hehehe

chapter five, Wolf in Sheeps Clothing

the title could be referring to multiple people. Nico, or Luke. Its your interpretation.

Just finished Ghost of Tsushima main storyline AND Iki Island DLC.

GOD FUCKING DAMMIT, OMG

One of the best games I’ve ever played tbh, it was beautiful, I fell in love with Jin Sakai and his character, like, he is genuinely a beautiful person and omg I felt pretty charmed by his resolve throughout the entire game—more men like Jin Sakai please. (yuna youre so lucky girl…)

I’m not much of a gamer myself, kind of I guess, I play when I have free time in my PS5 and when it comes to action games I’m a coward lol idk why whenever I am pushed into a battlefield I freak out (I almost had a heart attack when I started Ghost of Tsushima and the mothafuckers sent straight to fight at Komoda Beach, HELLO? The intro was so beautiful tho…). But Ghost of Tsushima balanced everything very well, and I enjoyed doing NPCs side missions, I felt powerful and badass.

(The way how the fear that the Ghost inflicts on his enemies is portrayed??? Chef’s kiss honestly. And the Records items, especially Conversations with the Khan, I enjoy the lore with so so so so much glee hehe.)

The characters, I fell in love with the characters. I knew I liked videogames when I first played Far Cry 4 and the characters felt so dear to me, and Ghost of Tsushima brought me back to when I was like 9?? and I was playing FC4 on my dad’s PS3. Jin’s story and the rest of the characters’ Tales hypnotized me, idk. The flashbacks, the foreshadowing, the small conservations within Jin and the others…I was sobbing in the ending and in Masako’s and Yuna’s tales. AND THE LOVELY WAY WE GOT SO MUCH APPROACHES TO IMPORTANT THEMES AS WOMEN EMPOWERING, FAMILY, QUEERNESS, TRADITIONALISM, ETC. jin baby you deserve the world.

Ngl, while I was playing the game not only I cherished every single interaction of Jin and his allies/friends, but I was glad he had the time to talk and rest, yk? And that’s why I love Yuna so much, gods.

From what I’ve seen, many ship Ryuzo and Jin, and while I kind of understand and respect Ryuzo, I don’t personally ship them. I was too excited to duel him the moment he was deemed a traitor lol, this game brought out the worst side of me (i was cackling when i got the ghost stance, run fuckers!). I did cry a lot on Iki Island whenever Jin had Ryuzo’s hallucinations, like, ouch, I would hurt forever if a childhood friendship ended like that.

(Talking about Iki Island, Kenji doing a cameo there LMAO, and Jin teasing him with “so you left Tsushima and you didn’t even bothered to say goodbye?” AJDKAKDKAKS YES YOU TELL HIM JIN)

Now, Jin and Yuna??? Muah muah muah, they are soulmates, romantic or platonically or both. Its the way Jin (throughout the story this loyalty builds up, love that) does everything no questions asked when it comes to Yuna, going with her to her tales? Damn Jin straight went and brought her heads! How romantic. The way Kenji was like “he cannot refuse if I tell him Yuna’s waiting”, AND THE WAY JIN HIMSELF OUTRIGHT SAYS THINGS LIKE ‘I would give my life for you’ OR ‘so you and Takeshi…?’ Hehehe they are so precious. They are definitely in love your honor, at least for me.

Wish I could still find the characters in the map or something after the main story ends, I’m at my new home behind Omi Monastery full of nostalgia because Jin’s home is a mosaic of gifts and remembrances of everyone he has known. Yuna’s gift, Ryuzo’s hat, Taka’s hook, Kenji’s sake, First Horse’s saddle (Nobu precious, I wish you had been there with me 😭) and lots of other stuff from Masako, Ishikawa, Lord Shimura, and many others that I don’t remember rn. Like, it is clear Jin loves his homeland, his people, his friends, I’m sure he would have made a perfect Lord, aw.

Hi Nalyra! I remember that in some promotional material Santiago was described as "scheming to take control of the coven". He appears in a judge costume at the trial. There are also multiple shots of Armand looking distraught from the backstage (?). You think this is how Louis remembers it and/or how Armand narrates it, presenting it as orchestrated by Santiago and minimizing Armand's involvement? In general, how do you think the trial will go? I keep thinking about Armand's "I only failed Louis once in my life, and it wasn't in San Francisco" (San Fran part is pretty interesting too, btw! Implies that something that happened there can be possibly read as Armand failing Louis). Also "You've remembered"...Remembered what? How thre trial went or that Lestat didn't die? Ugh, so many questions, the rest of the season can't come soon enough!

So I firmly think we will get to see two versions of the trial, though it might be that Armand will only tell Daniel the other one? Maybe?

In any case I think some of the responsibility will be shifted to Santiago at first, but Louis definitely knows that it was Armand in the books and so I do think that will be made clear in the show as well.

I think the first version of the trial will have Lestat accusing Louis and Claudia, and Claudia's diaries being brought in as proof. Armand will be watching from the back boxes.

I am not sure if we will get the full second version of the trial this season, or if this will be something for s3, but in any case I think that the trial... will have the flashbacks. That will be the moment when the revisits happen, because the justification for Lestat's "murder" was episode 5 and following. The logical conclusion: they had to kill Lestat.

And I think that will be when the tale will break once more in Dubai (as well?), and when... well. Maybe some other things will come to light, too. Though, as said... for example the "Frankenstein" moment, which has been foreshadowed in episode 1 and all the posters already... might only be between Daniel and Armand. We'll see.

In any case I do think Paris is what Armand is referring to there - because he failed Louis there.

He let it happen. He wanted it to happen, because Claudia... was in the way. And unfortunately he couldn't love her.

A deep dive into the MK1 cinematics (PT1?)

Hi, I'm a nerd and I like breaking apart scenes for small details and hidden meanings that adds to the overall story. For my first official post on The Collective Fixation blog, Mortal Kombat 1 is going to be topic subject today. I’ll be talking about random scenes in the game and trailer that I found really cool and some of the relationships between characters. (I actually blame my family for introducing me to MK1 the other month and I’ve literally not stopped thinking about it so lets get into it hehehe.)

!WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Ok MK1 is definitely in my top three list of best looking cinematics in video games.

This scene from the trailer was my favourite because it uses the lighting in the building as a medium for foreshadowing. Scorpion (Kuai Liang) being in the warm, bright lighting while Sub-Zero (Bi-Han) being in the cool, dark lighting. The light side referring to Liu Kang as he is first seen with light around him as he ascends down and Shang Tsung representing the dark side as he steps out of dark shadows revealing himself in the trailer. Foreshadowing the betrayal and the two sides of the story that occurs further on in the story.

When Smoke first gets introduced he is seen under red light which can indicate danger or a sense of evil, paired with the dramatic shift in music from calming to almost a startling shift into a intense music. This convinces the audience to think that he is the antagonist in that current moment. The extreme close up on his face shows off his emotions, which is difficult to do since he has the mask on, so actors have to get creative with their facial expressions. We see this with the intense look Smoke has when surveying the area, indicated with his eyebrows and eyes. Also the camera pans left to show off more red light on his face. The camera is below his face making a low camera angle, low camera angles most commonly indicate a sense of power, strength and intimidation to the subject in frame.

(Side note: Live Laugh Love low camera angles, you see them so much in this game and I love itttttt)

The film codes (technical and symbolic) in the scenes between Johnny Cage and Kenshi Takahashi play an important part in the growth of their relationship. When Kenshi is revealed to the audience, the camera pans up from his feet to his sword to his face leaving in at a low camera angle. This increases dramatic tension by slowly revealing to the audience what Johnny sees. When taking in account of the music changing to a upbeat fighting kind of soundtrack the audience makes the conclusion of you guessed it danger, antagonist.

(Ofc cause he isn't the actual villain in the game but as the time he is lol)

(Side note: i love the way the game developers made it so the cameras seems hand held or on a dolly and not fixed in place, seems like we are in the game/story experiencing everything with the characters.)

Not that important but I love how the light from the pool reflects off both Johnny and Kenshi, its all about the details.

Now lets talk about THE SLOW MO BETWEEN JOHNNY AND KENSHI. Gotta admit, it caught me off guard a little, because normally a slow mo is used to focus on a character’s emotional reaction to a person, place or event in that current moment. And after thinking long and hard, I have come up with a conclusion on why the directors made this decision.

To show the tension between Johnny and Kenshi. Kenshi at the beginning of the story does not like Johnny or his ideals, its shown between dialogue when talking about their reasons to becoming Earthrealm defenders and Kenshi disapproval. And is the base of why they interact in the first place, because Kenshi wants Sento and Johnny wont give it over. The slow mo focuses on kenshi’s facial expression of aggravation and intensity about his fight with Raiden and about Johnny’s bad sport man ship in the previous scene with Johnny vs Raiden when Johnny’s ego was talking was basically he talked down Raiden’s abilities. This contrasts Kenshi’s ideals of honour.

(side note again, I haven't done a full deep dive on their characters nor have I done a deep dive on a character so I may have gotten some stuff wrong but I haven't fully played the entire game yet I'm like halfway rn so yea)

Charlotte!!!! More anime/manga asks yipeeee I'll give you the three I can think of rn! For this one, Gintama is definitely my all-time fave but the others are in no specific order at all

Gintama - This one started off as a comedy at first and it really took its time endearing me to all these quirky and funny characters, while also showing glimpses of the layers beneath them. Then comes the "serious" arcs, that's when I start screaming and crying when I get to know more beneath those layers. The comedy is definitely still the highlight in this series for me, whenever I feel down I would pick a random Gintama episode and just watch it. Tbh, even if it has 300+ episodes, I can confidently say that I probably already rewatched it at least three times by now. But another highlight for me here is the mangaka's godtier ability to shift the tone between say comedy and serious/heartwarming moments, the transitions feel really smooth and it doesn't feel forced or out of place. I mentioned this in Jojo's ask, but this series really helped/supported me through my most depressed teenage years and it's probably not an overstatement to say that its one of the reasons I'm still alive rn. One of the quotes there that I can still vividly remember is "It's always darkest right before dawn". On the more goofy side, even to this day, I still have that one monkey's long ass name memorized lmao (the tagalog version specifically) Even if I change interests and fandoms, it will always be #1. The writing style, the characters and the comedy in Gintama are all such a huge inspiration, as well as a standard, for me. If you're familiar with Gintama, you can see lots of pieces of it in the way I want to portray and execute my own stories.

Pandora Hearts - THIS ONE CERTAINLY CHANGED MY BRAIN CHEMISTRY AS WELL. ITS ALSO VERY MUCH A MASTERPIECE. But my brain treats it the opposite of Gintama, in the way that after I finished reading the manga - I never reread it again. That's just how much the story destroyed me so thoroughly. I'm so afraid to re-experience it lmaooo I cried a lot of times for the characters there and the plot twists are nothing short of insane. I really love how complex the characters, their relationships with e/o and their lore are in this story. This series really fuels the angst + extremely complicated story lover in me. It's also a huge inspiration for my stories 🤭🤭🤭 If you're not familiar with this one, I recommend searching this one anime ost it has called "Lacie" (to avoid spoilers, don't go for the sideshow ones dkdhdj). I'm so attached to that ost, it has been a source of both comfort and sadness in one package. One of these days, I'll get enough courage for a reread...

IDOLiSH7 - I discovered this idol series when I was in college! (specifically experienced it first in the mobile game form) I thought its gonna be the usual happy lighthearted idol story that I'll move on from after a few weeks BUT NO! BRAIN CHEMISTRY CHANGED!! I didn't expect them to go so much deeper than that and I didn't expect to love & be attached to all the main characters, it's insane. Some of the characters' problems like Mitsuki's even hits so close to home, it really made me go *pause and starts walking around the house*. And thats just part 1 of the story, and then it's gets even worse (in the best way possible) in further parts. It doesn't help that the anime for it was done with a lot of love and care in it, elevating and improving the source material even further (adding/emphasizing symbolisms, more foreshadowing, etc). I just know that the main people involved in the creation/production of its anime were also as much of a fan as I am 🥺💖✨ (THE SONGS ARE BANGERS TOO!!!)

lbc is definitely more of a like. slow burn, in terms of getting to know the ins and outs of the characters. some are more blunt and straight forward (ayn) and some take you several main story chapters, 15+ affinity events, and several card stories to figure out wtf is wrong with them (alkaid)

even with the au versions, the mls all the same base nature, so it's rly fun to pick apart how their upbringings made them different, and how it changed around their innate traits and yadada nature vs nurture

you'll also find lbc is stupidly consistent writing wise (the themes, base natures, and motifs for each character will show up so goddamn often with new twists and takes and deep dives) and has. a lot of foreshadowing. like a LOT. i love both tot and lbc, but character writing and consistency wise, lbc is a breath of fresh air sometimes lol. the game rewards meta posting and theorizing and it's SOOO fun omg

For the reverse unpopular opinion game…the Armageddon crossover 😂

Lol, oh no, saying something nice about Armageddon. Not pulling your punches here, huh? (hehehe) Really gotta think this one through...

Okay, so with how S7 ended, Barry was shown as being waaaay faster than Eobard now. With Eobard running off threatening revenge (as usual) it was definitely a big question mark on how Eobard would manage to position himself as a credible threat again after Barry just... casually sped up to watch Eobard (still speedster fast himself) in slow mo before tossing him aside.

And for all my issues with Eobard's actual game plan, I do think Armageddon succeeded in making Eobard a credible threat again for the duration of the event.

Eobard had to find a way to make himself the faster of the two of them, so he lived up to his name quite literally. He reversed their fates. He rewrote time to make himself the Speed Force's zippy darling - we don't see the Speed Force during this event so she may not have even looked like Nora Allen anymore, but perhaps like Eobard's mother? (something to consider for fanfic down the line...) - which meant he was the faster of the two of them now. Barry became the one who was a temporal anachronism and paradox that would be erased from history if he didn't do something drastic (use the Negative Speed Force, destroy the world... it's all drastic measures of some kind). It was actually fairly clever idea and no doubt a difficult one to execute... which might explain why Eobard attempted it three different ways before getting it right.

It also had a surprising amount of foreshadowing for the rest of the season (as well as S9) going on in there. Chester/Allegra aside, there's Alex meddling in Team Flash relationships. In Armageddon she's being nosy about Chester and Allegra, in the real timeline she sets Caitlin up with her new boyfriend. The new boyfriend (whose name escapes me... Marcus??? something Marcus??? Marcus something???) is actually at Robern's (blink and you miss him) as Caitlin's date in the future arc of Armageddon. Cecile's powers growing stronger as she learns to embrace her emotions instead of fighting or rejecting her feelings during her adventures with Top in the present. Joe leaving as a series regular (thankfully not by death). Iris' time sickness being connected to the Negative Forces does, in retrospect, get seeded here. Arguably even that a main character was going to die because Cisco - a beloved former main character - was dead in the Reverse Flashpoint timeline's future.

It's fairly common for the timeline to correct itself by having one death or tragedy 'fixed' by causing another one down the road. The hurricane force storm + tidal wave Mark Mardon caused in S1 was averted only for the city devastating doom to turn out to have been a can kicked down the road that popped up in the form of the singularity event. Wally's death - the death of a brother - in Flashpoint became Dante's death - the death of a brother - in the re-established timeline. Similarly the death of Cisco (an OG member of Team Flash) almost became Caitlin's death (another OG member of Team Flash) and did become Frost who, though not an OG Team Flash person... was technically there from day 1 as she slept inside of Caitlin. Legends doesn't really have this kind of symmetry of tragedies going on with their time travel, but it has been an interesting thing to look for with The Flash's time travel hijinks.

Blitz's shopping spree was such a joy to watch, and it shows how much effort he's willing to put into the visits he makes to Stolas in order to keep his business and friends financially secure. i'm waiting to see if one/the mnm's will get a similar sequence in the future.

Stolas... didn't just start the conversation by giving him the crystal, first ? asking about the book first -- Blitz's only reason that his business is still running and keeping him AND his employees financially afloat -- and seeing the underlying fear and uncertainty on Blitz's face before Stolas doubles down... God, it hurts. ' i can always do better ' just... OUGH.

i am going to out myself as a Blitz enjoyer here because i relate to him a lot on a concerning level.. but also because i've been to that scalding, steaming pit of self-hatred, too ; i've long since climbed out of that pit, but i can understand his position because i've been there. you feel like you're alone, even when you're in a room full of company that you enjoy being with. you feel like even when you're surrounded by loving family/friends, you have this feeling in your heart that they secretly hate you regardless of how much praise or support they give you. something just feels... off. any signlas that Stolas may have given him just whooooooshed over Blitz's head because he's too caught up in his own self-loathing to see it.

additionally, i've ALSO been fearful of someone with higher authority who's able to decide whether or not i keep my job depending on their opinion of me. to have such low self esteem and be at a disadvantage in The System just freaking sucks donkey balls, bro.

i'll give Stolas credit where it's due : the communication is FINALLY happening ! but you know what's awesome about that process ? learning to LISTEN !! he knows that Blitz is a guy who uses humor in the way he communicates, and i feel that it would not have taken more than a few seconds for him to have said, ' Blitz, i'm being serious '. would it have not lead to Blitz blowing up at him ? i don't know ! would it have lead to Blitz calling out Stolas and having his emotional rant anyway ? it's entirely possible !

both characters are so caught up in their pains that, if they took a little more time to clarify themselves and their feelings, it's very likely that their confrontation wouldn't have ended the way it did.

YESSSS AHHHH you caught one of the hints!!!! I love that! Okay so there's also some hints in the Key West chap, also even the Vegas chap some tiny clues to the night they met/shirt swap/etc, also some kinda foreshadowing even back in chap 1 with some pointed lines (just to name a few). Also also the whole playful arguing over who spilled the drink on who that happens several times is to show they have different recollections of that night :D AND THEN Bradley seeing him before, at the party they playfully made up meeting at in the key west chap, as almost this kind of 'what could have been' in comparison to what it was. hehehe. (we're not totally done with the night they met, or the fact that bradley saw him at that party)

YESSSS the whole point and he finally got it! And they'll make mistakes and learn to figure it out, but that's the beauty of it. That chap was just spotlighting all the versions of family jake has one by one (his friends, then the team, then the bradshaws/mav, then bradley) to drive home the point that all together, that's his definition of family and home. And he decided to stay when they were broken up which was really important to me. And now they're choosing each other and intentionally building a home together and I just!!!! (also vice versa- there's so much I could say about bradley in this, how he learned to let jake in, how he opened himself up again and found genuine silliness and happiness, etc)

Anyways all that essay just to say THANK YOU SO MUCH. Sincerely, this has been a labor of love and I'm so honored it means anything to anyone.

NaNoWriMo - Day 10 (in retrospect)

Completely forgot to write my lil journal entry yesterday! I was off of work yesterday but sadly didn't get as much done as I wanted yesterday, only 1,935 words total but I'm trying to stay positive lol. Because no matter how few words I write per day, I'm still writing more right now than I have been writing in the past 4-5 years, ever since I started my degree basically. So, still, I'm proud of myself!

Working on chapter 30, which is goooood and I'm excited about this new idea which is definitely suuuper self-indulgent because hurt/comfort is one of my fave genres (which is the only spoiler you get lol) AND because it's a nice foreshadowing for blank space in a way (but also no really lol)

ANYWAYS, looking forward to day 11! I'm thinking I can def finish chapter 30 Saturday and then Sunday work on getting some ideas together for the next few chapters that are gonna be a bit more chill until the ~ main big plot thingy ~ happens hehehe

YAY LOREEEE YES YES OF COURSE i love telling stories as well so this is perfect HEHEHEHE (im v sorry this is so long. this is what 5 years does)

so i joined idv when it was still quite new! november 2018, i checked. my best friend (who is also a selfshipper here, just inactive atm) asked me one day if id like to play with her this game! she only got into it recently and wanted someone to play with so she thought of me. without much hesitation, i did (i was immediately convinced with the dbd styled gameplay) so ive been playing idv with her non stop (we even played together recently after i went back to it for norton hehe)

norton wasnt even there when i first joined! there used to be a small roster of survivor and hunters and i remember either she or i get leaks on new survivors and we talk about it! norton was the second "new" survivor at the time that i got introduced to, i think that was on march 19 (which is also his birthday). at first, i was simply excited to get new survivors so of course i was like "yay!! this prospector looks awesome!" (foreshadowing. /j). i think one of my initial thoughts of him was "dang, that is definitely a design i fuck with" (his miner's hat really gives a lot of character! i still believe that today).

i was pretty much neutral at first. i just go yay cool guy is here in the game lalala (same attitude when the other "new" survivor came out)

one day my friend was designing an oc to pair with a random character (i dont think it was a yume thing, she just wanted to ship with someone because why not) and i wanted to join her as well, that's when I conceptualized irene - she was initially a shell collector :D like my friend, i wanted to find a survivor to pair her up with and without hesitation I just went. yeah. norton . nortons the one (as i said, his design really resonated with me and imo he was like, one of the actually "good looking" survivors to me at the time. its hard to say that now because we have characters like luca, aesop, edgar, mike etc etc LMAO)

so i was like yeahh! irene x norton real :D at first it was just a very lighthearted thing for me to do (as in, i wasnt very. 'HES SO CUTE LALALA") but i think it was when i tried to google fanart of him to draw at the time - that's when i was like "ooh... he kinda cute tbh..." but mostly just kept it hidden

at that time, i didnt really accept being a yumejoshi yet - i was super casual abt it and didnt think much abt liking him (i thought he was just a handsome blorbo to me). also because i was very preoccupied shipping him with emma (whom i very much projected into hehehe)

so after some time this becomes an on and off thing where i like him, and then ignore. like him, then ignore. cue the dormant years

then timeskip to maybe like, my 1st year in the yumeblr community, i missed him and this time i was becoming more head over heels for him for a brief time so i drew him and irene (irene was still a shell collector there too.) it was short lived

then uhh, time skip to a little more recently last year -- fools gold was becoming a thing! I don't know fucking HOW, BUT THAT TRAILER/NEWS CAME INTO MY YOUTUBE TIMELINE EVEN IF I DID NOT... TOUCH IDV? AND, FUCKIN HELL, I THINK I BECAME A NEW PERSON THAT DAY 😭😭 LIKE SEEING FOOLS GOLD WAS A WHOLE ASS RESTART BUTTON BECAUSE SUDDENLY I WAS IMMEDIATELY DOWN HORRENDOUS

AND AFTER THAT, I JUST. BECAME. WHAT I AM RN. EXTREMELY GIDDY AND SILLY ABT THIS DUMB HOT ROCK FUCKER LMAOOO but again it didn't last long? (medium lived ...?) cuz of steven. but also my friends (yk the fuckplace server) were constantly teasing me abt norton in general at this point so i couldn't exactly get him off my radar but i kept quiet. its worth mentioning that irene was still a shell collector too but i was starting to debate whether i should redesign her or not

and then, skip to the present. what got me to like, really selfship with him and just fully commit to liking him for Months now even -- was because of the stageplay which my aforementioned friends kept encouraging me to check (and when stageplay norton came up. i basically had the same reaction w fools gold but more positively and more lovingly SKAKWKKASKA) and that's when i fully retconned irene's lore to really align with his lore.

its worth mentioning that during norton's early years in the idv community - we did not know his personality and lore. the only keyword we had was "gloomy" but that didnt stop me and my friend from misinterpreting his attitude to be friendly and goofy (and irene was... believe me or not. a fucking Hater.. he was the goofy. she was the Not goofy one. its scary to look back on). and im so serious when i say the fools gold trailer changed the whole game for me because thats when i actually KNOW: 1) his personality 2) his lore 3) he is not a goofy Guy and i revamped irene's entire lore to align with his - making her the rich happy girl to his poor emo boy
